Starting at center, ch 2.

1st Round: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. NOTE: Hereafter pick up back loop only of each sc; do not join at end of sc rounds.

2nd Round: Make 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd Round: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 8 times.

4th Round: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 8 times.

5th Round: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) 8 times. Join with sl st to back loop of next sc. (40 sc total).

6th Round: Ch 3, dc in joining, make 2 dc in back loop of each sc around. (80 dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc). Join to top of ch 3.

7th Round: Ch 4, * skip next dc, working through both loops, make dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch 4.

8th Round: Ch 3, 2 dc in joining (starting shell made), * ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next dc (shell made). Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2. Join to top of ch 3.

9th Round: St st in next dc, ch 3 and complete starting shell (starting shell over shell made); ch 3, * shell in center st of next shell (shell over shell made), ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join.

20th - 24th Rounds: Repeat round 19. Mark the 10th dc each side of shell sp on next petal and every other petal around (40 Markers).

25th Round: Sl st to first marked dc, ch 3, * dc in each dc to within next shell sp, in sp make 2 dc, tr and 2 dc; dc in each dc to within next marker, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make dc in each of the next 2 marked dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (joint dc made and 1 front petal completed). Repeat from * around, ending with dc in last marked dc. Join to first dc. Remove all markers and cut thread, end off.
Make the 11th dc each side of each shell sp skipped on previous round.

26th Round: Attach thread to 5th dc preceding any shell sp, ch 3 * dc in each dc to within next shell sp, in sp make 2 dc, tr and 2 dc; dc in each dc to within 1 dc of next marker, hdc in next dc, sc in each of next 2 marked dc (1 back petal completed), hdc in next dc. 42nd Round: Attach thread to 4th dc preceding any shell sp and complete as for 26th round.

43rd Round: Working over back petals only, ch 15, * sc in next tr, ch 10, skip next 5 dc, make a joint dtr going into next dc and 7th st on next petal, ch 10. Repeat from * around, ending with skip 5 dc, dtr in next dc. Join to 5th ch of ch 15.

44th Round: Work as for 28th round, having one ch 1 sp less over each loop.

45th Round: Starting shell in joining, * ch 3, skip next sp, sc in next sp, ch 3, shell in ch of next sp, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, skip next sp, shell in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

Cut thread, end off. Weave in ends. Lightly press. Starch if desired.
