Quick and Easy Bedsocks - 1949 Free Vintage Crochet Pattern
Materials: Sock and Sweater Yarn 3-ply, 3 (1-oz) balls in color, scrap of white; steel crochet hook No 7
Make chain about 14 inches long.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, tr in same st, dc in scam st (shell made), * ch 1, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 2 ch, in next ch make dc, tr and dc (another shell made). Repeat from * across for about 12 inches, ending with shell. Ch 3 turn.
Row 2: Skip first shell, shell in back loop of tr and of next shell, ch 1, shell in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in tr of shell. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Shell in back loop of first sc, * ch 1, sc in back loop of tr of next shell, ch 1, shell in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in tr of shell. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4: Tr and dc in first sc, * sc in back loop of tr of next shell, ch 1, shell in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with shell in last st of previous row. Ch 3, turn.
5th Row: Repeat 3rd row.
6th Row: Repeat 4th row. Continue working 3rd and 4th rows alternately until piece is 2 inches longer than length of foot it is to fit. Break off.
EDGING: Attach white at corner of beginning starting chain. Working along side away from starting chain, ch 5, sc in 5th st from edge, skip next st, * dc, tr and dc in next st (shell made), skip next st, dc in next st, ch 5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st, skip next st. Repeat from * around three sides of rectangle. Fold rectangle so that starting chain is doubled on itself, matching A to A. Sew firmly with same yarn from A to B, being careful to catch only one at on each side and avoid making a ridge. Turn seam inside. With contrasting thread, run stitching from corner of fold to 1/3 of way across top edge. Follow this line as guide and stitch firmly with matching yarn. Remove guide thread. Thread ribbon through spaces in pattern about 1 1/2 inches down from top and bring out at front fold about 1/2 inches from top (see diagram). Fold down loose points and tack. Fold down top all around.
